Allan McPherson was born in Toronto and was both a noted athlete, playing rugby with the school’s championship senior team in 1915, and a talented scholar, called “a student of great promise” by his teachers. He enlisted in the infantry in April 1916 and was commissioned a lieutenant. He later transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and went overseas in July 1917. While in England he completed his training, becoming an instructor that November. He was killed in an accident near Grantham, Lincolnshire and his body was repatriated. He is one of the nine UTS boys who fell in service to be buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
